We Say: Between The Pipes is another solid niche release from In The Game. It’s not for everybody, but if you’re the sort of collector inclined to pick up a goalie-themed product, you’ll like what you see.
The 150-card base set is broken up into eight subsets. Some—Future Stars, Team Canada, Immortals, Tandems—work better than others—Stars of the Game, Record Breakers—but on the whole it’s a pleasing box to break.
The insert program provides good bang for the buck. Our Double Mem card of Rogie Vachon included two good-sized hunks or jersey and glove. I had to look up the player (Murray) featured on our Autograph, but the design is outstanding. This set may feature the best use of the sticker autograph to date—I actually had to run my fingers around the edges before realizing it wasn’t hard-signed.
The teal background overwhelms the image on the base Masks card, but these should be as popular as always. The Forgotten Franchises cards were a nice surprise—an old-school style insert that highlights a unique element of the game’s history. After pulling these cards, this set is on my to-do list.– Al Muir
