I was shocked when I heard they dealt Kimbrel, but I understand why they did it. Upton's salary was hurting the Braves and the fact the Padres were willing to eat the rest of his salary had to have been huge for the Braves, but in order for the Padres to accept the terms was if the Braves threw in Kimbrel as part of the deal. I think the Braves knew they were going to have to give him up in order to free up the salary from Upton, and now they will be able to rebuild wisely and competitively for future seasons.
