1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt Black Box - How rare is it?
Any collector's out there know just how rare this card is? I just sold one on eBay for a nice price! Here's a better pic then the one I had on the auction.

I would say the card is very rare -- maybe at most 1 percent of all cards issued with that number. Not impossible but very difficult indeed

Not sure what urs sold for, butt one went about 3 months ago for $350. Hard to imagine why the OPG has it listed so much lower...

if the one that ended on ebay is yours.... you are being modest with saying you got a nice price for it!

RE: 1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt Black Box - How rare is it?
I know they are extremely rare. I just didn't know how rare. I have a lot of information regarding the card and I was just curious how many error collector's out there still had interest in this card. I had 7 of them (1 was cut from a sheet) the other were in uncut sheets. I sold them all to the person who was the original bidder of $1,300 for an undisclosed amount. I was informed by a friend of mine that this is the holy grail of error cards. Unless of course you could find a Witt without the blackbox.

I would consider the Frank Thomas NNOF 1990 Topps to be the holy grail of error cards because it is a rare error of a superstar RC. I just don't get the appeal of an error card of Mike Witt. To each his own I guess.

If you are a master set collector, the Witt has only been on eBay 4 times, including the one I sold, in the last 13 years. They generally go for $700+ because the copies that hit aren't in very good condition. The 1990 Topps Thomas is rare but not near as hard to find. Where are other error collectors out there to help confirm this? I actually think the Alex Gordon 2006 Topps card is just as hard to find as I have not seen an actual copy for quite a while anywhere.

I have heard that there a tons of desireable error cards in 1991 Topps, however I don't know enough about them to dig em all out.

RE: 1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt Black Box - How rare is it?
There is NO WAY the frank thomas is harder to find than the witt! a witt psa 6 or 7 went earlier this year for $1199??? or $1299. One went off ungraded for i believe around $860 and the only other one i saw in 12 years on ebay went for over $900 and i believe it was close to $1000! the frank thomas nnof isnt even the holy grail of the 1990 topps set! that would be the george bush presedential yale promo which just sold last year for $13000 or $14000!!! and the jeff king no black on back would probably sell for 2x what the thomas sells for...granted there are a bunch of fake thomas's, but there had to be 10 or so on last year alone! I don't know an error card collector who wouldn't buy a witt for $350...wish i would have seen that deal!
hey jim...in 91 there are 2 major errors that have some decent value (but the set is packed with variations)...the chris hoiles #42 can be found with a white inset border, a black inset border, or a black inset border with a slash of white showing in the upper left hand corner. the white is the rarest and traditionally sells for about $50-100 (there is currently a psa10 on ebay). the other hard to find one is the doug drabek with a white or black inset border...again the white is the hardest to find and within the last month or so...someone has been selling them on ebay for about $85-100 each. the other tough one can be the mark whitten with full hands (the border doesnt end where his hands go on the bottom left hand border-can sell from $25-55)... quite possible the hardest stuff to put together in this set can be the A*B* sheet variations and the instant winner pack inserts (255 different!)...a master set of 1991 topps set sold a year or so ago for close to $850 |

RE: 1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt Black Box - How rare is it?
The sheet variations is what I was thinking about. I didn't realize that there was a Drabek error, as well as the others...is there a website that would have scans or more in info on error cards? I just find that their stories are interesting. BTW Wow on that Bush card! I didn't know it existed.
