Bustin': 2007 Donruss Americana - tracy hackler - 01-03-2008 02:44 AM
Click here to watch the world premiere Donruss Americana Box Busters video!

Quality time with a four-pack, $160 box of Donruss Americana

Pack #1
Cindy Morgan Cinema Stars Materials (#392/500)
Dina Meyer
Cindy Williams
Dom DeLuise Cinema Stars
Melissa Jo Hunter
Thoughts: At long last, the first packs of Donruss Americana have arrived and promise to provide contents the likes of which the sports card arena has never seen. We kick off our break with something of a thrill, a shirt card from Cindy Morgan, the incomparable Lacey Underall from "Caddyshack." We also pulled "Laverne and Shirley" legend Cindy Williams and contemporary hotties Dina Meyer and Melissa Jo Hunter. A fun beginning to say the least

Pack #2
Bette Davis Hollywood Legends Materials (#59/100)
Catherine Hicks Gold Proof (#81/100)
Dom DeLuise
Lou Gossett Jr.
Dina Meyer
Thoughts: To put it in terms sports collectors can appreciate, a Bette Davis dress card is the equivalent of pulling, say, a Nolan Ryan or Joe Namath memorabilia card (although Davis has far fewer available). The Gossett base is cool, especially for anyone who's seen "An Officer and a Gentleman." If you have to get duped this early, Meyer's not a bad one to have see twice so soon. The Proof parallels quickly add multiple levels of collectibility -- and any "7th Heaven" fan can apprciate pulling Hicks.

Pack #3
Michael Berryman
Stephanie Powers
Justine Simmons Silver Proof (#132/250)
Val Kilmer
Morgan Fairchild Private Signings (#8/150)
Thoughts: Touchdown! As a child of the 1970s, I -- like most every man my age -- had a crush on Morgan Fairchild. Truth be told, most of us still do (dust off some old clips of "Flamingo Road" to find out why); which makes the Fairchild auto something of a box-maker. Stephanie Powers is another small-screen starlet from the 1970s who's a welcome addition to any pack. The Michael Berryman card freaks me out a little, Val Kilmer oozes cool and Reverand Run's wife is, well, in the product, too.

Pack #4
Burt Reynolds Platinum Proof Materials (#25/25)
Humphrey Bogart Hollywood Legends(br> Lori Petty
Esther Williams
Buzz Aldrin
Thoughts: We saved our best (hit) for last with this extremely limited piece of shirt worn by screen legend Burt Reynolds in the television series "Evening Shade." Little-known fact: Beckett's own Ted Barker had something of a recurring role on this early 1990s show. Needless to say, he was giddy at seeing this rare card from his former "co-star." Pulling anything bearing product poster boy Humphrey Bogart is quite cool. Landing two screen legends, an astronaut, a knockout from yesteryear and a contemporary actor all in the last pack provides an appropriate close to the first box of Donruss Americana.

-- Tracy Hackler
RE: Bustin': 2007 Donruss Americana - alstott9adams - 03-31-2011 05:10 AM Not bad |
