Great names for not-so-great high-end card products - DrMitchJ - 05-23-2015
From a post in the box break section ... In response to some very horrible Tier One hobby box breaks, there was a realization that there are very few Tier One players represented, but mostly secondary and tertiary players are populating this product. It was suggested that Topps renames this line 'Almost Tier One' .. I came up with a few more fictitious 'high - end' card concepts.
Great names for crappy products.
Here are some more!
RIDING THE PINE! Bat relic /autos and nickname relics of MLB players with under 100 lifetime at bats. Serial numbered to their number of at bats or less!
CRAPPERSTOWN! Players not fit to carry the jockstrap of a HOF player, featuring autos of them and the relics of HOF jock straps they're not fit to carry.
PANINI (past their) PRIME CUTS: relic autos of players that should've hung up their spikes a year or two after their debut. Starring ROY players that fizzled out way too soon.

One star- cards made from actual cardboard pieces cut from old Topps boxes and drawn by toddlers!

Bowman Deception - autos of players that were incredibly over-hyped but never panned out
could also be called Fool's Gold.

How about wood relics from their favorite spot on the bench?
Also a couple of Panini ideas: Panini American Past Prime (instead of Past Time). This product will feature the obvious and it's sole intention will to deliberately drive down the value of the cards collectors already own of these players. And since card companies like to really drive their point home by making the exact same cards under different product names, how about Panini Golden Years. This product will have the exact same auto's, relics, base cards and gimmicks as the Past Prime but will have a slightly different border that they most likely took from one of their basketball products. Topps Part Timers, this product will contain journeymen and guys who consistently bounce back and forth from A ball to the majors or who never rank higher than 23 on a teams depth chart.

I love 'Bowman Deception' .... But Fool's Gold should be the name of the insert/mini card included!

Since most of my wrath was inspired by Tier One, here are some more ...
Could also be Tier 'me a new' One. The cards that make you feel like you just had your first proctogical exam or colonoscope for that Ultra High 'end' feel
Or Tear One: auto/relics of only Tommy John Sugery recipients. Maybe a 1/1 relic of the scalpel blade? But to make it ultra-crappy, it might have to be limited to only the players that never made it back to the bigs ... the real high 'end' ... Career end-ing surgery

Panini American Past Time & Panini Golden Years: great concept. (But Sadly, doesn't Topps already do this? ... Same photos, different borders, different products ... flooding the market, etc, etc ... ?)
Topps Part Timers: love the concept, it would work great with an 'Archives' feel and approach. The parallels could be the same photo with Photoshopped altered uniforms of all the different teams they were on.

HEY, New product ideas:
Topps Redemption: high ticket box, filled with only redemptions. The kicker is, it's only for cards that haven't been made yet, of players that never sign in a timely fashion, and all the cards expired a week before the product hits the shelves!!!! Comes with a special phone number for a dedicated compliant line where the topps customer service department is outsourced to China. After an hour (or more) of frustration (and 'Danger Zone music while on hold), Topps approves their Customer Service rep to send you whatever cards that are just lying around, cards that have never been wanted previously ... And you're happy just to get something.
