Hobby Prizm VS Retail Prizm - bryandwells1 - 01-12-2013 So I went to the LCS to pick up a box and decided to pick up couple prizm packs too. Then I went to Target for supplies and picked up the Retail packs they had. Came home and opened and compared. Here we go..... Hobby 3 packs $21? (don't remember) Pulled: 6 RC - Parsons and Sullinger 1 MVP - Kareem 1 Auto - Liggins 10 base cards - Rose Total $29 plus (OUCH!) Retail 12 Packs $36 Pulled: 15 RC - Irving, Waker & Leonard each 1 finalist - Shaq 1 Dtown Bound - Pierce 3 Green Ref - Biyombo & T Jones 28 Base Cards - Durant Total $72 Plus (could be better) RE: Hobby Prizm VS Retail Prizm - rjcj2017 - 01-12-2013 Yeah, that's interesting. There really is not much difference between hobby and retail ... the autos really aren't the driving force of the product, because it's so hard to pull good ones in both. For example, out of a hobby box at $100+, with only two autos per box and a very big, very questionable checklist, I pulled a Walter Berry ... I mean, Walter Berry? He was good, but nowhere near great, and he hasn't played in the league in what, 25 years? The best auto I pulled out of four hobby boxes was Jimmer Fredette. The real drive of this product are the Prisms, i.e. "refractors." 1:8 packs retail (they're just green instead of regular refractor coloring) ... 1:12 hobby ... so not a huge difference, difficulty wise — although somehow the pack searchers in my area have figured out how to pull the green refractors. I bought 34 retail packs the other day and got exactly one "greenie" — and based on the odds, I should have had at least four. The only huge difference is the "gold" prisms, which are hobby only — and they're so damn hard to pull that it's almost not worth the price differential to buy hobby. Out of four boxes, I got one gold — D-League great Jared Cunningham. Interestingly enough, it was in the first pack of the first box that I opened. Anyway, they're really nice cards, whichever direction you go. It's really nice to have a "chrome" type product back in the hobby. I really wish Panini would make some Prizm blasters to keep the pack searchers away. All I've seen are the loose packs so far. I have pulled 3 Green Prizms (Magic, D. Rose, & O Robertson), 1 auto (Jenkins), 2 Finalists, & Downtown Lebron insert. That's not counting the 130+ other cards. From what I've read, I'd much rather have the retail version.
