Rookie year card vs Rookie Card - DONJUANDON61 - 01-04-2013

I am new to collecting... Could someone please explain to me if a Rookie Year card is considered a Rookie card(i.e. is 1986 star #2 MICHAEL JORDAN rookie year card considered a Rookie Year Card or a Rookie Card?) Please excuse my ignorance and thanks in advance for you help.
Thanks, DJ

Star cards are not considered RCs ... they're considered XRCs, or extended rookie cards (as in, cards that came out before their rookie cards).

Not including the Star cards, some people consider the base cards from a set to be true RC's where everything else is an insert, parallel or like you stated Rookie year card.

Jordan has 1 Rookie card, IMO, while todays players have anywhere from 1 to 300 with jersey cards, auto cards, refractors, die-cuts, etc....

Slight correction, star co. cards are considered XRC's (Extended RC's) as Star was a regional distribution product only (sold in team bags in the respective cities - so New York Team Bags only sold in New York) and were not major distribution like fleer. The later XRC's (released middle of last decade) were released as redemptions before a players RC season but after they were drafted. 2011-12 RC's were released only as redemptions so all are considered XRC's making Kyrie Irving cards from 2012-13 Rookie cards for his base cards. hope that explains in more detail for you.
