Question on shipping insurance - kelbysdaddy - 10-07-2012
i'm going to be shipping something that is pretty expensive and want to add shipping insurance. how much does insurance cost and does it go by percentage of value? any help would be great.

-It's fairly inexpensive. For $200 of coverage it's maybe 3-4 bucks. (if that)

It goes up by value, but anything worth under $200 is pretty reasonable. No matter how much it costs, it is cheaper than replacing the product if something happens to the package. If you are shipping to Canada, however, forget everything I said.

Here's the rates (not sure if these are totally up to date, but pretty close)

INSURANCE FEE RATES
Fee . . . . . . . . . . Insurance Coverage
$1.65 ................ $0.01 to $50
$2.05 ................ $50.01 to $100
$2.45 ................ $100.01 to $200
$4.60 ................ $200.01 to $300
$5.50 ................ $300.01 to $400
$6.40 ................ $400.01 to $500
$7.30……………$500.01 to $600
$7.30 plus $0.90 per $100 or fraction thereof over $600 to $5,000.
