New Guy looking to have fun! come say hi! - washjeff - 10-03-2012
Hey all, I'm Dave from Pittsburgh. I just this week got back into my childhood hobby of trading cards and I am focusing solely on hockey right now. The week started quick with tons of packs and a box break of the 12-13 O Pee Chee stuff to help build a collection. I'm pretty sure the most rare thing I got was my Anaheim Ducks team logo patch.
Today I picked up three packs of 12-13 Artifacts! My "hits" were a rookie, game used jersey card, and an autograph rookie redemption! I'm pretty excited about what I have so far and I want to keep building on it!
My questions:
Are the boxes of Artifacts off upperdeck.com as good as my hobby store?
What are good high end sets I can look to for good hits?

I really don't bust much myxelf anymore, but I'm sure someone will be along to answer your questions. Most everyone here, particularly Randi (rayeates) is very helpful.

Welcome to the site, Dave! Thank you for the very kind words, Tyson (about friggin time!)! As you may be able to tell, we like to have fun here (except Tyson, he skulks around making the place dank for everyone else) and are a great community. The help that I have received over the past few years has been nothing short of astounding (again... you can exclude Tyson from that list), and I know that there will many members that will jump at the chance to answer any questions that you may have (don't ask Tyson). The Help Forum is a great place to snare some answers too, and I would suggest reading over the Terms Of Service to make sure that you have a good understanding of the rules. Also the FAQ's are a good place to start with anything that you may need. There is also a great thread explaining how to add cards to your Organize, and another that explains what the trade column headings are.
I know... loads to read. Well, here's MORE! Haha! This thread with an extremely cheesy title is one that I wrote up and had the rest of the community add to. It has a lot of information that the members have all shared, and made a pretty big splash on the Hockey Boards. If you have some time, give it a go and see if you can add anything to it. I'll put your suggestion in the original post!
So, as you can tell I like to write, as I have done so in your thread. Haha! If there is anything that we can give you a hand with, please do not hesitate to ask any one of the experienced members. Hey Dave, welcome to the site! There are a bunch of great guys here on the hockey boards, you'll find it incredibly easy to get along with everyone here, and hopefully get right into the swing of things as far as trading goes. Cheers!

Hello and Welcome. I can tell you the boxes on Upperdeck.com are "Retail" boxes. Retail boxes are great for set builders but it is much harder to land a "hit" and you can pretty much forget about rare hits if you do find one. Look for "Hobby" packs or boxes for a better chance to land a rare card. Hope this helps.

Dave Welcome to the boards...This is one of the closest knit boards around. some of us have been here many years and have built a tight network of traders. There has been a solid steady core on here for sometime, along with a new influx on newbees which we enjoy as it boosts our trading ability as well as fellowship.
As you saw from above in the encycolpedia that was bestowed upon you by Randi (Rayeates), he is the hockey boards self-proclaimed mod and has forced us through intimidation and bodily harm that we must ackowledge him as our resident hockey mod! (JK-LOL)
Randi is provides alot of much needed information to new members as yourself. We are very happy to have you in our family here on Beckett. WELCOME!

Hey thanks for the posts all! Pensfanaddict you may have yourself some competition now! But let's talk shop sometime. I guess my artifacts box will have to come from the store. I had a coupon to use online but I will use that for some set building.

Hmmm, I know a guy who can solve all my problems with new Penguins collectors.....you notice there arent many Penguins collectors left on here.........just saying....
As you can see Im a Vitale & Max Talbot super Collector. Walt (Pens1fan) is a Despres & Crosby Collector....we try to help one another with their respective player collections.....let us know who you collect and maybe we can assist in your needs as well. We have a good balance and help one another...unless its a 1/1 and both our players are on it...THEN ITS FAIR GAME! LOL!
