Topps Rookie Premiere Autos, how can you tell if they are real? - jmessick86 - 05-02-2012

I want to buy a 2009 Topps Rookie Premiere Auto of Percy Harvin, but I know these cards are easily counterfeited. Is there a sure fire way to tell which one is legit and which one is a fake?

I know some years have a foil sticker on the back

That doesn't help me much considering most people only scan the front on eBay. I got an Andre Caldwell one time the looked ok on the pic it looked ok. When I got it in his auto wasn't consistent with other cards I have and the card felt like it was printed on regular photo paper and the print quality sucked

you could request to see the back...and if they refuse you know somthing is up...idk if all years have the sticker

I guess that would be a good way to find out

Stay away from any that say "Player Issue". Those are the ones that are known to be faked the most.

Undecided
Id send that to PSA or JSA then, because there is a good chance it could be faked.
Think about it, you are a player given a stack of your own cards for the first time. Are you going to sign your own cards? Most players didnt.
They were cards given to them by Topps at the shoot itself for them to keep and hand out to friends and family because it was their first pro cards ever!

send to PSA, do NOT send to JSA, they've had some real problems lately with some of their so called "authentic" autos. Personally, I won't buy anything authenticated by them now!

My suggestion is to know the signature of the player you're buying inside and out. When I first started buying Bennett's I got taken with a fake because I didn't know his signature that well.
