1992 Pro Line Profiles Autographs authenticity help needed - cdillon17 - 01-19-2012

How do you know if a 1992 Pro Line Profiles Autographs card was one put in packs or not?

Obviously, the same card was produced without the autograph... somebody could have personally gotten the same autograph. I've seen some mention of a COA seal, but I have yet to locate that. Of course, I don't even know what I'm looking for.

The ones claiming to be real "Autographs" and the ones without autographs on comc.com seem to have the same backs. The #386 Eric Dickerson one on comc.com is a good example... there is one with the auto and one without and the backs appear to be the same.

Help!

Send it in and have it checked for authenticity, they offer that service for a reason Wink

I'm looking to buy one, I don't have it yet. Thus why I'd like to be able to know before I buy it. Is there not a seal of any sort?

They have a Stamp on them saying they are certified and normally it is in the left or right corner of the card.

On the autograph cards there is NO card number in the corner, but rather a stamp indention , as authentic autograph. This also is the way that they did the 91 set, by 93 they were putting their Congratulations notice on back. If you need me to post a scan of one let me know.

Here's a shot of mine-it's not good quality. If you look closely at the left bottom corner, you can see the stamp. It's imprinted and sort of looks like a sunburst..His fingers and toes are touching the outline of it

Thanks, everybody, for the help. That stamp is hard to see, but I see it now that you all pointed it out. Thanks.

Now you want the bad news? Proline just sent the cards to players and thought they would sign them. Well guess what some didn't sign their own cards. Some used autopens, or had someone else sign them for them. Below is a card that while it is stamped, could not be authenticated by JSA autograph services. I also have a letter from them to that fact.

No, I don't want the bad news. That stinks. Thanks for sharing though.

That is a good point, I know some of the cards used to be listed in the price guide with notes regarding Auto-pen signatures etc. In fact I believe there were some players who signed some of the cards and then had their wife sign the rest, and that used to be noted in the price guide too. Those notes used to be one of my favorite things about the print guides, as they used to have notes indicating variations. Those notes sure would help on some older variations (I know they do it for some of the new Topps SP variations).
