On card auto fading - bennyfunk - 01-16-2012
I've recently noticed that some of my on card auto's from the late 90's and early 2000's (before the sticker auto trend) have began to noticeably fade. I keep the cards in penny sleeves & top loaders and in dry storage away from any sunlight or higher-wattage artificial light. In fact, most are stored in shoe boxes so they really aren't exposed to any light at all. Could it just be a part of the natural aging process over time? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I've seen it happen on the Sweet Spot cards, mainly blue ink seems to fad worse than others. There was a post awhile back on this subject.

Definitely on the sweet spot leather cards. It just seems to me sharpies might not be the best to sign on a glossy surface for the long haul.

I have several autos players that sign the cards in blue ink from 90s and these seem to be holding up just fine (of course they would they are not worth more than $5). However I have a sweet spot and it came faded. I have not bought another sweet spot since then.
