$11 shipping for 5 cards? Am I getting punk'd? Opinions please. - nittany13 - 06-15-2010 09:19 AM Earlier today I won five cards from five separate auctions from the same seller on eBay. In the auction descriptions the seller states that shipping is $4 for the first auction won but he states, and I quote, "will combine shipping on multiple items". In the e-mail that I received after I won these five items he said that my combined shipping and handling charge will be $11.

Now I will point out these are very rare cards and I paid a lot accumatively (around $75), however it seems to me that $11 S&H may be a bit excessive regardless. Even $4 dollars S&H per card is seemingly somewhat excessive in its own right IMO, but that is okay with me since I knew that going in so that is not the issue here.

Was I wrong to assume "will combine shipping on multiple items" means $4 regardless of the total amount of single cards won? Would you have interpreted that phrase the same way? The extra dollars that I would pay does not bother me however what does is that I feel that someone may be trying to take advantage me and if true that really ticks me off!

I just like to hear from some of you guys first please as I mull over my response to this seller.

Thanks. $11 shipping for 5 cards? You shouldve sent an email asking about the shipping rate. And to me $4.00 sounds pretty fair. You have to consider the excessive fees, the bubble mailer, the materials to protect the card and the amount to ship the item.

You spent $75 on his/her auctions, do you realize ebay will take about $6.00 worth of fees and that doesnt include the paypal fees which is another $2-$3. Then again all the materials to ship and actual shipping price. $11 may sound excessive but in actuality its not like the seller pockets the cash.

Ive said this for years now "eBay is the greatest place in the world to buy things, but it the worst place to sell things"

I sell once in awhile and some people give less than 5 stars on shipping and I charge $3.50. I get quite aggravated with selling because if I get $8.00 for a $20 card I want the $8 in my pocket not to pay off fees or shipping costs. Thats why sellers have to charge more. If they dont then they will pocket $3-$4 on a $20 card sale.

I think he shouldve have went $4.00 on the first card and $1.00 per each additional for a total of $8.00 which would cover the fees for the most part and cover the cost of shipping since he will mail all 5 cards in one package.

Again this is just my thoughts on the subject. You may see it differently in your own eyes. Either way I hope I helped you out a bit. $11 shipping for 5 cards? Am I getting punk'd? Opinions please. - juan88 - 06-15-2010 10:01 AM I've always seen combined shipping to mean the first card price is set and each card will add so much each card. Usually I have seen shipping for first card is $3 and 50 cents for each card after. Now it looks like he is adding $1.50 per card. He did combine shipping, just not how you wanted it. I don't know if you have ever heard the saying "When you assume you make an @$$ out of you and me" $11 shipping for 5 cards? Am I getting punk'd? Opinions please. - goatnhofs - 06-15-2010 10:07 AM I believe he did discount you. He never said additional items were free for shipping. If he did not discount you, it would have been $20 for shipping. While it still may be "excessive" shipping fees, people never complain when they get a $100 card for $10 that the seller is ripping himself off. Chances are, you got more than what you paid for as far as the value of the cards versus what you paid for them. With that said, take the shipping costs with a grain of salt as you probably still got a great deal overall. $11 shipping for 5 cards? Am I getting punk'd? In hindsight I should have anyway.

I do understand what you are stating concerning the costs of packaging and fees, that is not what concerns me here. Personally I always take in to account the seller's S&H charge before I make a bid, I look at it as an accumulative total. If I am charged $3 for a PWE I won't even make a big deal out of it, no harm no foul - but it better not have any water or crease damage when it gets to me!
I think he shouldve have went $4.00 on the first card and $1.00 per each additional for a total of $8.00 which would cover the fees for the most part and cover the cost of shipping since he will mail all 5 cards in one package.
So it seems to me that you agree with my premonition that he is trying to bunko me out of a few more dollars. That is the heart of the matter. The extra money I pay does not bother me, being taken advantage of does.
Again this is just my thoughts on the subject. My seller actually sent all the cards in an envelope and the postage didn't even equal the first charge..
I always e-mail them first to be clear. I even list in my auctions what additional cards cost trying to save confusion. |
