Catcher: Chris Stewart
We all know the story about buster Posey this season, but how about his replacement Chris stewart. His cought stealing percent is just under .600. He through out Austin Jackson last night also. What do you think?

RE: Chris Stewart
He just threw out Austin Jackson trying to steal third, one of the few runners that should even bother trying to steal on Stewart. (he's thrown out 7 of 13 currently) But if we're comparing him to Posey and viewing him as a starting catcher it would be nice if he could hit the ball with the bat a little bit too. Think he's batting .182 at this exact moment.

i agree about the batting part, but maybe they should get rid of Whiteside and use him as a backup becuase he has a cannon.

Yes i know he can't hit that well, but Eli Whiteside can't hit that much better. I just think that he would be a better backup for posey when he comes back.

RE: Catcher: Chris Stewart
I'm not a fan of Stewart or Whiteside as a starting catcher, but at least Stewart has a good arm. I still think the Giants need to get an offensive catcher to take over for the rest of the year, and then replace Whiteside/Stewart as backup. Possibly a guy like Ianetta from Rockies, he's a backup to Olivo I believe.

i'm only a fan of stewart because he has a great arm. I still think he is better than Whiteside. When posey comes back he should be the backup.

Whiteside often seems barely able to throw the ball as far as second, BUT he has pop in his bat (even though he is not a grand hitter either) and if you will hit a homer every so many at bats that is a nice factor to have as a backup catcher who is good at calling games, stopping the ball, and protecting the plate. As a Giants fan I think Chris Stewart is a good player too, but I can also see how it is a toss up as to who to play - I would say Stewart should be the one back there currently while playing the run happy Padres, but he didn't have success against them in that department the other night, a lot of it depends on the delivery from the pitcher as well, so his arm was rendered less important than his bat the other night and nothing really paid off in spades.

As for who I would choose to be the backup if Posey were to return? Would have to see more season from Chris to see if he improves or does anything to really steal Whiteside's job, because Whiteside is a pro backup catcher and performs in that role pretty well, so it is his job to lose, Stewart would have to have some breakout numbers.

RE: Catcher: Chris Stewart
Chris stewart is young and still has a lot of time to hit a homer. He is also throwing out runners more than whiteside. No carcher did great that series vs the Padres. Whiteside got a lucky call last night when he through out a runner who was safe but called out. I still think stewart will have better numbers than whiteside at the end.

Chris Stewart (29) is only 2 years younger than Eli Whiteside(31), they were drafted in the same year, and is a "journeyman" ala he's been around the block getting cut by White Sox, Rangers, Yankees, and Padres. I am a Giants fan and hope for the best with Chris Stewart, but have to reckon, unless he has some sort of Jose Bautista enlightenment what you see is what you get, and he and Whiteside will both be dropped in favor of a Hector Sanchez(21) if Posey comes back with full force as a catcher.
