RE: your thoughts .....
thanks for all your input folks, and yes, Bakerman that would be a sweet box concept Smile

it's kinda funny the difference between yesterdays and todays collectors ..... I swear pbeanjr must think I'm "nuts" at times. Any chance I get to open a retro box I'm on it Smile while I'm sure he's more interested in pulling todays stars etc.

keep your thoughts coming .....

Man. I'm with ya. I can still smell that powdery bubblegum when you cracked a pack open! LOL! I used to hate when a good player had that gum film on it.

Mark "the Bird" Fidrich ..... was totally stoked pulling my first Score Barry Sanders RC ..... still have that card today Smile

My first pack of 1978 Topps cards had a Roger Staubach! Everyone in the block wanted it.

As an older collector(is 41 old? Yeah, it is!), I still prefer the newer stuff. I still get kinda jazzed at the single color jersey cards. I look at it this way, living in Wisconsin, I've been to the old County Stadium to watch the Brewers, and to the new Miller Park to see them. No comparison, new is, to quote Herb Tarlek of WKRP, "mucho bettero"!

I'm not against "new" product, just love the older boxes where they weren't full of sooooooo many RC's, inserts, sps, mem, and autos ..... getting a hobby box with that one great pull used to be so much fun imho.

Just busted a box of 2000? Topps Chrome and my "hit" was a Thomas Jones RC ..... was stoked to see it was first Gem Mint, but it still carried a great BV Smile

it wasn't full of 6 RC's a pack, an insert in every other etc. etc. etc. it just had one RC and two refractors ..... really brought back some cool memories of getting "the box" just like the ol' days Smile

RE: your thoughts .....
Definitely the older box. I remember when we still had an lcs in my town and I would go down and bust packs hoping for an Emmitt Smith 'red seige' or some great Fleer Ultra insert so I could trade for Niners stuff. All I ever seemed to get was Dan Wilkinson but there was always something in a box that I would like. I loved trying to make sets including the insert sets.
I used to get gift certificates from the lce or boxes of cards for Christmas and my birthday and always had a blast. Now I would feel really bad if my family spent that kind of money on me and all I ended up with was some scrub.

Currently trying to build 2010 Gridiron Kings
I collect Steve Young, Manny Lawson, Roger Craig and most things Niners.

RE: your thoughts .....
I still remember when proline came out with an auto per box. Cheap looking cards but you got an autograph. The wives were cute also. And Wild Card was the absolute bomb. Getting a striped card. I think it was a first for boxes that cost about $60. .I was absolutely stoked to pull a 50 stripe Emmitt smith. Of course the coilation forced you to buy two, three even four boxes to make a set. I ended up trading around and made 20 complete sets which cost me an arm and a leg to ship in for a factory 20 stripe set. And remember the Actual WILD Cards. They may have been the first redemption type cards. Who would have thought we would be so lucky searching to pull a Emmitt and getting a Favre rookie instead. Upper Deck did the search for Joe auto. And Stadium Club had the Super Team cards. Shame the dual auto I pulled of rice and montana is worth petance of what it used to be.
For the earlier poster that mentioned Mark the Bird. I seen him pitch when he was in triple A. Dad used to get box seats from work all the time.

RE: your thoughts .....
I don't know what I prefer, but I enjoy busting anything. I wonder where the industry is going next, from jersey cards, shoe cards, draft hats, and helmet cards, ticket autographs, what else can these companies come up with.
