How can you call a former ROY, World Series MVP, All Star Game MVP, three time gold glover, three time silver slugger, Hank Aaron award winner, a future member of the 3000 hit club (possibly 4000) and a carrer .317 hitter OVER RATED! Not to mention he has 19 career post season home runs and a career .311 post season average and won 4 world series titles.
Pujols hasn't done all that.
I'm just saying.
Can you say on the Yanks that Pujols wouldn't though... or that Jeter would on the Cardinals... that is where I think these convos get interesting personally

Jeter also has five years on Pujols. Let's see...ROY, check. A gold glover, check (he will have just as many if not more before he calls is quits), Hank Aaron Award...check, a future member of the 3000 hit club, I'd say there is no problem there as long as he is healthy. So, we are missing an All-Star Game MVP (whoopee) and a W.S. MVP. Seeing as Jeter has played in 3 times as many W.S. as Pujols gives him a slight advantage in chances to win the award. And while we're on the subject of MVPs, Pujols - 2 (soon to be 3), Jeter - 0.
I still think Jeter is a great player though.

"Overrated" is a relative term.
If one is saying that Jeter is the greatest player of this generation (like a couple have on this thread) then yes they are vastly overrating him.
If one is saying Jeter is a great player and was an integral part of several championship teams - then I'd agree - thats not 'overrating' him.
I think in general the term is referring to the dichotomy that shedwa pointed out - that he probably is one of the one or two best known 'faces' of the game in the last twenty years, but his numbers - while great - wouldn't typically merit that based strictly on on-field production.

It wasn't my intent to state the Jeter was better than Pujols.Personally I don't think you can compare them as they are completely different players from one another so I shouldn't have made the comment on Pujols. I was merely trying to make the point of Jeter's greatness, which I think I accomplished.
The only negative I see with Pujols career is the unfortunate steroid era he plays in. Did he or didn't he? . The only star position players I feel confortable saying that definitley did not use performance enhancers are Jeter and Griffey.
