Good MAENing TCs:

I received some wonderful news that I wanted to share with you. Yesterday, my oldest Darling Daughter successfully defended and was award her Ph.D. Jippy Wow. I am so impressed and filled with joy for her. She will be teaching this fall at Lynchburg College in southwestern Virginia, so she will also be closer to home and me.

Mike, a wise friend of mine said that no situation in life is permanent. That teaches one to be grateful for the wonderful time and thoughtful during the hard ones that, yes, this too will change. My daughter was 3 1/2 years old when I had to tell her that her Mommy had died the night before. It was the most gut wrenching time of my life. But she and I both survived my wife's terrible loss to go on and succeed. I like that think that anything my daughters and I have accomplished are the result of my first wife's love and support. She's an angel that's always with me. But the way, my first wife would have been 61 on Tuesday.

Thanks for sharing with me, and I hope that you can feel some of the joy that I do.

My best,
Ironman

Thom, your strength is inspiring. I thank you for sharing your story with myself the the rest of the group. I hope I can one day be as strong and happy as you are my friend.

Wayne, funny thing, I always wanted to become a little league coach. I like kids and was going to see if I could latch on to a team this summer, but got too busy with work. I'm hoping maybe next summer I can. I will look into an insurance claims agent and see if that might be a fit for me. Thanks for the advice.

On a side note, I am looking to possbly pick up a pair of roller blades soon and maybe join a hockey class. I always wanted to learn to play.

Got an AWESOME package from Travis today! Inside were some 79 Topps some of which I needed as well as a stack of Bowman Heritage from the past three years that are new to me! Including a nice Max Ramirez Rookie. Also some 2008 Bowman and a few Kenny's for Dawn. But the topper to the entire package was a 2004 Bowman Draft Refractor of J.P. Howell that I needed! Bringing down my total to 19 with one I bought on eBay the other day on its way! Thanks Travis! I think you may be the new leader for this month which could result in your choice of an unopened pack!

Mike, hang in there buddy! Good luck if you decide to play Hockey, while I can't stand to watch it on T.V. I've always wanted to play! Have Fun!

Congratulations Thom, to you and your daughter!
What a proud moment and lasting tribute to your wife's spirit.

Living can be a tough gig - We all need to remember to draw on the good things - from our own lives, from those around us.

This group (as a group) has its' ups and downs. I appreciate how honest everyone is and I am grateful for the perspective and strength I draw from everyone's participation.
( Yeesh - blah, blah, blah....)

Hey!!! MAILDAY!
Thanks Randy for the "four-bagger" rec'd today. Love that auto Scout card! I was expecting you to keep a set (or 2 or 3) for a TC set. If anybody needs some Phillie Bowmans lmk.

I picked up a cool trade on the Basketball board that arrived today also.

This young man went to high school in Queens at Holy Cross and was a 2008 McDonald's All American. He is heading to Virginia to play in the ACC. He and I share the same last name, which is pretty cool for me, because I grew up with very few relatives on my late dad's side. I actually went to see him play a game and tried to introduce myself. I did get a nice voice mail from his grandfather and I did speak to his dad on the phone. He is a totally great guy, I understand.

I have limited court skills, but my dad played in the 40's and played on a scholarship to Duke. (Maybe the skills skip a generation - as my son plays well on his middle school team.)

Thanks to Google you can track down a lot of stuff. There are two boys, also with my last name, playing division 3 (?) football upstate. It's also cool to see them with their unis on and my name on the back!Smile

The internets make it a very small world, in deed!

Maybe a family tree project is in my future?? (Actually, I have too many projects already, but it would be fun....)

Cheers all.

Roller hockey discussion? Sweet!

I play with a bunch of friends (one of my buddies' Dad owns a skating rink - weird right?). Anyways we usually start at like 10:00 Friday night and play till well after 1AM, closer to 2. Saturday night- same thing. Unfortunately it's a little bit of a hike for me to go every weekend, but we get to play at least once a month. Monday morning work suffers though..oh well I'm not really a fan of the sport in general, but it's a ton of fun and GREAT exercise. One word of advice--- if you're goaley, where a cup Sad nuff said

Have a good day, all!

EDIT: Thom, Lynchburg is a great little school. The same buddy who I was talking about above is going there in the fall to pursue his masters.

I would love to be a goalie. My favorite hockey player is Martin Brodeur. I might make a good goalie. I pretty good at catching and blocking stuff. I wouldn't mind being a forward either. I gre up a huge Mike Bossy fan also. I'll let you guys know the progress.

I kept 1 set to make 1 set, most everyone said that I could keep a set so keeping more from others wouldnt have done anygood in making the other set.
