No offense taken here Wayne. In high school, our coaches made us watch video of different teams and learn the different styles of play. To me, soccer has always been as much or more a game of strategy as it is of strength and endurance.

In the Euro you have to like the way Turkey has been playing but I'm rooting for the Germans. I like Spain over Russia but the future is not yet written so time will tell.

Yea, Soccer.. Boooooooring. I am a fan of the World Cup Soccer Pinball machine though Smile I think that's more for the fact I like pinball.

I too got some parts of my x-mas in July.. should be fun finding more stuff to cram into the box.

Jakpi, nice score on the bat. I actually have never gotten anything from a player myself, I've never asked either. Partly because I think they'd think I was a dealer or something since I'm not a kid.

Mike, thanks for the pics, that is pretty sweet.

I played a lot of soccer when I was a kid/early teens but watching it on tv is a bit much for me.So yeah, fun to play boring to watch IMO.

Same for me Travis. Hopefully there wasn't a secret ballot to vote us out because we don't like soccer!

I don't care much for soccer also . I have gone to several HS games in past to see a STAR player put on a show like the Pele shot backwards over his head . Did see one boy almost 6 ' tall to one . never coached it but my son played at 4 .

Not a fan of soccer. I did play in HS for a semester. I stunk the first game so bad. They then put me in goal the second game. I allowed one goal during the remanding 7 games. The coach pleaded for me to join, but I found the sport boring. I wanted to play baseball, but stunk at it. I played football one year as a wide out, but hurt my knee bad and never played again.

Hiya TCs:

I find soccer interesting. It was big in St. Louis when I was growing up. We had a teacher who made up play a lot of soccer this what must have been a medicine ball. It was heavy and could take a lot of abuse. Nothing like a soccer ball. I remember taking kickoff and hitting a header back and it darned near knocked me down. Never did it again.

Interesting story. We had a young man who came to our country from Germany in the early 50s. He was a real target for the tough kids because he was a German. They beat him up a couple of times, and then he got tough. He was a terror and most of the kids learned to fear him. But I found him fair if you met him fairly. He was really tough in a tough neighborhood. He was shot twice before he got out of High School. I thought he would probably never be anything.

But you know, a couple of years ago, I spoke to that same teacher who wanted us to play soccer. He didn't remember me, but he did remember Frank. Frank was a great soccer player. Run rings around us. Well, he heads a soccer league for kids in St. Louis and is a upstanding person in the community. He did well. So the moral of the story is never put it to someone because you're a racist, and always respect the other guy. And if he plays soccer, take him to a game. That's what I'm doing for the guys at Reed soon. Sadly, they also want to go to a WWE event. I got them tickets, but I'd rather watch Wayne watch pain dry.

Best to all,
Thom

Not to bore too many of you, but I did see the UK band Coldplay last night with my 13-yr old. It was a free show for fans who registered online (2-ticket limit). A sneak preview of their global tour which begins in Philly this weekend. They played 1 small show in England last week and then one in Barcelona. Their 1st song off the new record is #1 in the US, UK and lots of other places.

I am somewhat familiar with their music, and they always struck me as a decent U2 clone. But even a U2 clone is better than most other rock music. Being in an arena filled with fans was great fun because even though their new CD came out last Tuesday, everyone seemed to know the words to every song!
It was my sons first Garden show, so that was cool - and we enjoyed each others company - I'd say very much!
One awkward moment came when two slacker types sat down in the empty seats next to my son and one started to light up a small non-tobacco product. My son elbowed me in the side and whispered his concern - so I puffed out my chest and told them to go someplace else if they were going to smoke that. I got a bit of a shrug "for the old man" and then I squared up to them and said "you guys can't stay here - go somewhere else." They slinked off and my son thanked me for getting rid of them. It was a real 'dad' moment. My son's a good guy.
He loved the show, I enjoyed it very much - as much for the company as for the music. Free tickets; a couple $30 t-shirts; not bad all in all. Nice way to start the summer.

Soccers cool! I played soccer for 6 years as a kid and then my parents figured out that I just didn't have the body type for that sport...plus I just tripped anyone that tried to get around me! I took up football and basketball in junior high. Also played a little Roller Hockey in college. Baseball is my favorite sport and I never played it...go figure!
