It's just my opinion, but I care more about the quality grading job rather than the display of my cards. So what if psa/sgc have nice registries. IMO psa/sgc are inferior grading companies. Your cards may be displayed nicely, but the actual cards in the display are not worth a plug nickel. I'm seeing so many people jumping ship. Beckett says that they are going to fix the registry and I for one believe them. Just be patient. Everyone expects it to be done NOW.
Before you ask, I'm not an employee of Beckett or I would have the Beckett crest. I just think it's a shame that you care more about a registry than you do about the company actually grading your cards.
Thank You for listening.

Nolan, it is a fair question you are asking...of course not, the registry is not the most important aspect of a grading company's service...quality of grading and slab protection are more important in my opinion. But a registry is important nonetheless.

Look at GAI, they failed to implement a registry and as a result they were unsuccessful. You are off base with SGC...how can you say SGC is an inferior grading company? They have graded some of the most priceless and important vintage cards in the hobby and have a wealth of grading expertise, but they too realized the importance of a registry and designed a stellar one.

I am a Beckett customer, but BGS is falling into the same trap as GAI in my opinion. They think they can ignore customers' wishes on a registry...Collectors enjoy registries for a variety of reasons: showcasing their collections, sharing with friends and fellow collectors scans of THEIR cards, and yes competition is fun for some collectors...it also serves as a database to keep track of one's collection...there are a variety of reasons. A grading company cannot compete without one---GAI has proven that and so did SGC with their realization they needed to fix theirs.

Also, take a look at the Beckett website...do you believe this is acceptable? I can never find the information I need on it...they are ignoring the pleas of their customers to fix it and guess what...the customer is always right when it comes to accessing the information they need. btw: it has taken me several attempts to type this as beckett's website doesn't work too well with the Google Chrome web browser.

OK, thank you for your opinion. I can't help but notice that you didn't mention psa. Everyone please keep your opinions coming.

Yes, Of course the Registery is important VERY important... If you don't think so ask Joe Orlando what it has done for PSA..
1.) You said "I care more about the quality grading job rather than the display of my cards"..
good point quality should be the most important factor BUT that doesn't mean other aspects should not be important they all go hand in hand...In order to be the best you have to be the Best in all areas... Not just some...
The registery builds competition among collectors thus creates higher value of our collectables.
There's so many reasons why a strong registery is important for collectors, sellers, and BECKETT it's not even funny...
2.) You said "Beckett says that they are going to fix the registry and I for one believe them. Just be patient. Everyone expects it to be done NOW"
LOL are you serious??? yeah it's only been since the begining of August of 2008 we have been without a Registery... we're just a bunch of Jerks expecting Beckett to have things fixed within a half a year..
How much time do you think we should give them 2 years maybe 5?.
3.) You said "I just think it's a shame that you care more about a registry than you do about the company actually grading your cards".
You know it's a 2 way street.... If Beckett showed it's loyal customers they do care and provided some concrete answers when asked and showed progress was really under way.. I'm sure people would show the love back..
Let me ask you a question now..
1.) how many sets or player collections graded By BGS do you own?
2.) How many beckett slabs are in these collections?
3.) How much money have you invested in having cards graded by BGS?
Reason I ask is because I can't imagine someone who collects complete sets or player sets which are graded not seeing the importance of the Registery...

Those are very good points. I agree that it is important to have the registry. What I don't agree with is some people's lack of tact and command of the English language. I'm a Born-Again Christian and I find it Highly offensive to read people's posts that contain profanity and even elusions to profanity. I enjoy reading the BMB every day. I'm disabled and spend a lot of the time in my wheelchair. When I read the BMB I get to where I forget I'm disabled. It's refreshing! I have no idea if you're disabled or not. If you are disabled then you can appreciate the refreshing feeling that I'm talking about. And if you're not disabled then you may or may not know what I'm talking about. I don't know you personally. Please, please don't take offense. I know some people that say they know. They don't really know. I'm 33-years-old and still living at home with my parents. I have a trach because my vocal cords are paralyzed. I have a feeding tube for meds and nourishment. I haven't eaten by-mouth since June 26th, 2001. And I didn't do anything to cause all of this pain. I had brain surgery to remove a malignant tumor from my brain stem. It was deeply embedded in my brain stem. The neurosurgeon deemed it inoperable, but without the surgery I only had one week to live. After the surgery the neurosurgeon told my parents that he couldn't get all of it, because the tumor was so massive and so extensive that it got to a point where he and his assistant could not distinguish tumor tissue from brain tissue. He also told my parents that after the surgery due to the location of the tumor he wasn't sure exactly how much damage was done and what I'd be able to do. I keep proving the doctors wrong. I wasn't supposed to get off the ventilator and I did. I still have disabilities though. The big one in my opinion is NOT EATING.
I've been collecting cards since the Summer of 1990. I don't know what I'd be doing without this hobby.
Nolan, thanks for sharing your story and I am glad to see you are continuing to enjoy this hobby and I hope you do for many years to come! I understand your point that in the grand scheme of things a registry is not that big of a deal, but I can promise you one thing...it is fun adding cards to a registry and watching your collection grow...more importantly being able to show your collection to others adds even more fun to the hobby. If Beckett ever gets around to having one I would suggest you start adding cards to a registry...trust me...it is fun and quite addictive! I love the Beckett product and I agree grading and slab protection and security are most important...but as customers, we have a legitimate gripe here.
Where would PSA be without their registry? I agree that quality grading and quality slabs come first in my decisions for using BGS. But a strong registry concept adds more collectors, increases value, and provides a navigation tool in this massive hobby market.
If Beckett provides a registry to the standards of their previous product or better, then it would be an asset to the hobby. I want to see more collectors, more hobby discussions, more cards being graded, and current collections increasing in value. I think that the 2 biggest issues have been the errors/lag time in accessing the current registry version and the issues of not being able to attach pics to the collections. After that, it's also about the infinite possibilities that create a problem discovering what registries are serious and those that are accidental. Meanwhile, if there's any benefit, it's that BGS prices have fallen so much that I can get better value buying slabbed product rather than sending in cards myself... granted, the economy is also at play, but Gem Mint premiums have fallen hard and PSA slabs continue to sell well.
Without the registry, there's no purpose for me to add cards to "my collection", especially since I don't trade on here. The collections that I currently have are out of date and will be erased once I care enough to put the time in. My records are kept in excel sheets and I've found that to be more complete and reliable.
The lasting impression that I have is that the previous registry worked well, so I expected the new make-over to be a next level improvement... but its real-world use is a step backwards.
I like the registry mainly because I'm nosy and like to see what others have. I especially liked looking at pics.

It is absolutely important to me. Until they do something...anything, to add a registry, I will send not more cards to be graded.
I find it absolutely laughable they do not have a registry. You grade cards as a company but you remove the ability of your customer to see where they rank and to show there collections in a meaningful way.
It is the worst decision this company has made as long as I have know them to exist.
The only thing worse is the lack of information and lack of caring Beckett has displayed to their customer by tell us nothing about when a new registry will be in place. Why send cards to Beckett when they don't even respond with a meaningful answer to repeated pleas for a registry.
SGC has a great new registry and is a reputable company. PSA also an alternative to the crickets we get from Beckett. At some point may of the people who collect graded Beckett cards will just stop buying and they will stop existing.
It is just absolutely mindbogling they don't get the sense of urgency their customers are try to get them to understand. It is like Dairy Queen stopping too sell ice cream and yet expect people to look at them as a leader in the ice cream business.....
The emperor wears no clothes comes to mind.
