I've notice Beckett places those card sleeves into there protective graded cases why is this done ? Wouldn't it be better to have a graded case that provides protection from UV rays, air-tight, clear visibility yet no need to use plastic sleeves once graded. I really don't like the sleeves place on the card once graded and placed in an air-tight case plastic can have some adverse problems with cards can't it. ?

The sleeve is there to keep the cards from moving. PSA cards get knocked around. I have seen cards with dents on the edges due to the edges of the PSA case. Plus, the sleeve is archival safe, so it shouldn't be a problem. I did read a post from Mark Anderson on net54 saying they tried a more UV slab, but they found it made the slab slightly opaque.

The sleeve is placed to protect the card from movement which overtime can cause wear on edges. surface and corners..

well sure, BGS slabs offer all of this I don't have any graded cards where visibility is a problem due to the sleeve.

In 10 years I've never seen or heard of a problem..Have you? There's not a better slab that offers the same level of protection a visibility imo...Honestly there's alot of people who would not use there services if the sleeve was not used
This discussion has been brought up before (by myself if you wish to search). My big question was related to an auto having the potential to get stuck to the plastic and if at any point someone was to remove the card, it could potentially hurt the autograph.
However, being air-tight, and if you keep it in a place that is climate controlled, there should be no issues.
Thank you question answered.
Just to add, if you goto youtube or the like, there are tortue tests performed on slabs, and BGS is hands down the winner, each and everytime.
Speaking of which, there are going to be some trememdous videos coming out for the contest. I have a few slabs coming that are going to be dominated...lol...

I believe another bmb member posted pictures of a card they received where the card (Jordan w/thicker stock) was damaged as a result of the sleeve or case. I also believe it is possible for a card to be damaged by the side of the sleeve if the seal is very jagged and the card rubs or bumps against it.

Im pretty sure the pictures were from me, the card was from the 05-06 exquisite base set. The issue with that slab was that the inner sleeve opened up and was able to shift up and down which messed up the upper edge. However, the seller had multiple cards graded 9 from this set so i just got an exchange. So im not too sure if it becketts responsibility or if the seller i got it from cant not take care of his cards. However, this is the ONLY time ive seen this happen so im not sure, all the cards that i have gotten graded myself have come back excellent with the sleeves intact and everything.

Yep, that was you. I'm guessing the seal was faulty on the sleeve because I've never heard of anything like that before either. I really don't think the seller could of done anything to the case/sleeve to have done that. Since this probably doesn't occur frequently it's not a big problem.

Yep i gotta say i love the beckett case protection it offers, but even the best has some defects 1% of the time, not everything is perfect
