subject to change Wrote:While I would have preferred Beckham with the Pirates pick, I'm starting to like Alvarez the more I think about it.
However, I'm more interested to see what happens in the later rounds. Under Dave Littlefield, the Pirates rarely, if ever, went above slot in the later rounds, which is how Nate McLouth, Ian Snell, and Zach Duke were signed prior to Littlefield coming on board. Hopefully a solid draft can begin to rebuild the depleted system.
Mark, would you prefer Beckham so you have another SS to root for
PEDRO, PEDRO, PEDRO!

leaev Shooter Hunt alone, the yankees are taking him.
He is a 6'3" 205 Lb pitcher from Tulane University, he pitched in the Cape cod League for my Falmouth Commodores, he throws between 90 and 95 with a plus curve, a two seamer and he is working on a change up. He went to Ramapo High School and grew up in Wykoff NJ, and the Yankees are taking him.
thanks....but he's going to diego!

Isn't that around the same number Scott Borass demanded for Matt Weiters last year??? I think any ridiculous number that is spoen from Borass or any of his clients is truely a bluff for leverage. So to answer your question, no. Posey will be drafted by Florida, and they don't have that kind of money to pay him.
True, but he's not being represented by Boras.
Other agents have to catch on sometime, don't they? Boras clients are paid more. If the other agents demanded more, they'd get more the same reputation and do a better job for their clients as well.
Can anyone tell me what makes Gordon Beckham special? He seems to be a lock to go in the top 10, but after reading about him/watching the MLB scouting video, it doesn't sound like he'll stay at shortstop, he'll probably move to 2B. He had incredible statistics w/ Georgia this year, but I can't help but think he has an "aluminum bat swing." He seems overly pull-conscious in all the videos, and seems to end up almost upright after every swing. Watch about 1:50 to 2:10 in the MLB scouting video to see what I mean. It leads me to believe that his athleticism (combined with an aluminum bat) overcame his mechanical shortcomings.
I'm not too impressed.
you know what would be awesome if the Pirates drafted someone else besides Pedro then the Royals future Infield could be Gordon 3B Moustakas SS Alvarez 2B Butler 1B

He led the Cape Cod League in HR (with a wooden bat). His bat is fine. The only question is whether he sticks at SS. I think he will. the concern is that he MAY outgrow the position, but thats down the line. Down the line, I am not worried about if he can hit.
I'd be happy with Posey going to the Giants. There's no way he gets $12M. Asking for that kind of bonus just seems like he wants to fall to some of the better teams picking at the bottom.

Beckham lead the cape cod league with 9 HR's and was considered one of the leagues best prospects. I believe this league is a wooden bat league but someone can let me know if I was misinformed.
