how much do you think they paid for that?

From the wording of the last paragraph it looks like Topps did not own what they thaught the bought. I guess this was all over nothing. I can understand Topps point. Why would they pay all that money if they dident have exclusive rights to the stuff? I guess some lawers are getting fired today.......

They probably only had to pay their lawyers' fees...so maybe $100,000 depending on how ridiculous their lawyers are. Topps probably had to pay more for legal fees.

Maybe if these damn companies would stop fighting over the rights of dead people they could concentrate more on not releasing horse crap products. And the money that they spend on Court Fees and Lawyers could be spent on actual "Legendary" players autographs and game used memorabilia to actually put into a Box of SP Legendary cuts to make the Legendary part true,

or as it should be could "Non SP, maybe a Legendary Player in the future Cuts"

So what does topps exactly have exclusive rights to?

I never believed a company could "own" names and player statistics. I always felt these existed in the public name.

To me the issue has always been with the images, which are covered by copyright law.

That being said, companies like CMG disgust me. Once a player is dead ... that should be it. Stop making money off corpses.

Then stop buying cards of dead players

I'm glad UD can go back to business as usual. I'm happy that Topps was not able to prevent from UD from moving forward.

The issue I have isn't with the card companies. The issue I have is with agencies like CMG that continue to charge for the person's likeness even after they're dead. I believe that once they're deceased, any company that has a MLB license should be able to produce cards of that player without having to shell out money to some agent. No one should own these players.
