I haven't heard much Huet discussion, but I'm hoping Edmonton makes a bid. Garon/Roloson did okay last season, but Roli isn't getting any better, and I can't help but think that Garon's first season as an Oiler may not be repeated. What did he ever do prior to last year?

Now that my homerism is out of the way, there are a lot of teams that will likely be interested in both. LA still has a goalie issue, as does Tampa (sorry, Mike Smith isn't the answer), so I could see both teams go hard for Huet.

Any chance he'll resign with us?? If he doesn't we're basically screwed in the goalie department. Brent Johnson won't do.

Huet's gotta week.. and apparently discussions were very back and forth according to Tarik's blog.

I think Green is going to play hardball... rightfully so

I disagree with the Mike Smith comment. He's a very good goalie. Unfortunately he has to prove it on Tampa.

Huet should be a hot commodity during free agency. It seems that Washington is serious about being a contender and they've obviously shown faith in Huet. So while it's up to him, it appears at face value that Washington would be a good fit for him. But he did start off in the LA Kings organization, so perhaps that may become a natural path for him to take.

To the OP: If this ends up being the official free agency thread (usually we get about 4 of these in the week before July 1st Tongue will you be editing the top page with all the signings so people don't have to sift through 39 pages of me being Beckett's Pierre McGuire? I find that to be the most effective way so people can find information they want fast and not create additional threads that Trish just has to lock anyway)...

Anyway, Mike Green and the Caps are no where close right now...and I expect this to be hashed out after July 1st...it might take an offer sheet for Washington to come to terms with him...

As for Cristobal Huet, I've heard that negotiations are ongoing and making progress, but they are still a long way off...

to Zeus - Garon is a really good goalie, I thought he showed that in the minors and throughout his time in Los Angeles and Montreal...but maybe that's just me...I always held him in high regard though...

Los Angeles does not have a goalie issue, I wish people would stop saying that...they have enough parts there to make something, LaBarbera is a solid goalie, Ersberg was very good down the stretch and Ron Hextall said that he'll be given a chance to win a spot on the team, Jeff Zatkoff has progressed very well at Miami of Ohio and of course Jonathan Bernier may be ready to go this year...there'd be no point in grabbing any sort of a UFA goalie on a long-term deal or anything like that...

Tampa Bay just got Mike Smith, and in my eyes, he projects to be a starting goalie, he has a pretty good tool set in my opinion and has really impressed me in Dallas, Iowa, Houston and Tampa Bay...plus they have Karri Ramo and Riku Helenius on the way...I could see maybe grabbing a goalie, but ownership doesn't have the deepest pockets and they still are paying Marc Denis in the minors...

I have a feeling that Atlanta is going after either Brian Campbell or Mike Green.

Also...

With a total disregard for what may or may not be best for the team...

Brendan Shanahan to the Habs...ONE TIME DEALER!!!!!!

I'm not sure about that, Atlanta is prone to stupid mistakes, but they aren't prone to spending big time money...I can't see a perpetually rebuilding team dump four 1st round picks and $6.5 million on Mike Green...and Brian Campbell probably would have to want to be there to sign there...he says he wants to live close to his home in Buffalo if at all possible...the Rangers have been given permission to speak with his agent (amongst a couple other Eastern Conference teams)...so we'll see how that goes...

I also believe I heard some talk that Shanahan was gonna retire and become an assistant coach with the Rangers, but now that Perry Pearn probably isn't leaving, I guess that's not happening...that also could have been a weird dream, so don't hold me to it...
