Mere hours after the release of 2006-07 Hot Prospects, an Upper Deck official confirmed that the company made an honest mistake by including two cards of Minnesota Wild first rounder Benoit Pouliot.

"This error was the result of our coming to terms with Pouliot late in the production process," said spokesman Don Williams. "He originally was [in the checklist] as a non-patch rookie (card #163). But when we were able to come to an agreement with him for a signature deal, we added him to the auto patch rookie list (#126). Unfortunately, we missed pulling his other card when this change was made, resulting in the error seen in the final product."

The non-patch, non-AU version is serial numbered out of 1,999. The upgraded version is numbered out of 599. Because of the last-minute nature of the deal, the latter card could not be produced in time for pack out, forcing the use of redemption cards.

It is expected that both cards will be regarded as true RCs by the hobby.

In other UD news, the company announced that several redemption cards from earlier this season have gone live, or will very soon.

The 2006-07 SPx series featured both live and redemption versions of the RCs fo Evgeni Malkin, Yan Stastny and Luc Bourdon. The redeemed cards shipped this week. The long-awaited redeemed versions of the 2005-06 The Cup Alexander Perezhogin RC is completed and will ship shortly. The 2006-07 Hot Prospects Phil Kessel card was issued as a redemption, but those cards already are in the midst of production and should be out shortly.

A number of redemption cards from 2006-07 UD Trilogy are in the midst of shipping. Among these are the Ice Scripts autographs of Alexander Ovechkin, Marian Gaborik, Ryan Malone and Mikko Koivu. Patient collectors also can look into their mailbox soon for the ClearCut Combos of Billy Smith/Ron Hextall, Olli Jokinen/Roberto Luongo and Joe Thornton/Patrick Marleau/Jonathan Cheechoo.
