Yeah, a Big 3 triple auto out of UD Black would be crazy.

I'd be fine with Upper Deck or Topps having LeBron's Heat autos, don't really care which one (both would be better).
It just stinks that the best player in the league (arguably, OK, don't need to start a war on that) doesn't have any legit autos with his current team.
I wish there were a way to fix it.

Didn't see that anywhere, did I miss it? Even LeBron, Jordan, Tiger, etc.? I would think that UDA would still be OK in the memorabilia department ....

Yeah, I knew they had lost licenses obviously and had heard some of the lawsuit stuff, but never saw anything about them being done.
And for what it's worth, Durant is like my second favorite player so it's not like I'm happy they're behind right now ...

Doesn't the Panini contract end after the 2012-13 season? I thought I read that somewhere....not sure where.

they have ruined the basketball card industry!!
the NBS should of known better. Stern is greedy & others involved in licenses of NBA cards should of known better.
Panini raises their prices of packs/boxes, because UD was raising theirs. They know US collectors will buy anything, because we are hungry for the next best pull or card to add to our PC.
Panini manuplicates the sports card industry by having a ton of Kobe & Durant autos (also other star players).. all low serial numbers, so it creates a false demand of product, to increase value of their cards.... but it's not working.. You can pick up a Kobe auto for under a $100... when they used to be around $150-250 or more.. Durant's Panini autos have also dropped in price.
------------
I would love to get a Lebron auto in a Panini product, but I'd much rather have one of the other two companies come back to producing awesome NBA cards... I want 1 of the 2...
don't really care of it is UD or TOPPS.. but there needs to be COMPETITION amongst NBA Card Manufacturers...

Amen on all of the above ...
And I'm one of those people that doesn't really worry so much about the demand/value thing ...
Case in point, let's say LeBron did sign with Panini, and had some Heat autos ...
I'd gladly take a "watered down" $100 Panini auto of him with the Heat over a $250+ Upper Deck auto with the Cavs, LOL

I agree with the "watered down" remark, it doesn't actually bother me. I don't collect for my PC to have a high value, and I don't bust for ROI (though I'm happy when there's a good ROI of course). It's kind of good for common collector who wants a Kobe/Durant AU and has $125 to spend. Do they want to buy a box of cards and chance getting it, or just go out and buy one on eBay or elsewhere? There are some people out there who only really want one card of a player and they are satisfied, they may not (don't know how this could be) like busting product, maybe they lack the gambler gene.

Perfect example of what we're talking about ... two years ago I was busting Panini stuff like crazy chasing Griffin and Tyreke Evans autos (Kings are my team since moving out West) ...
I bought one box of Threads and pulled an auto patch card with purple coloring on the back ... I didn't look to see who it was because I wanted to wait until the end to see if I pulled an Evans.
Then I quickly remembered Evans' patch autos were only redemptions in that product, so I just assumed it was Omri Casspi (pulled like eight of him that year, LOL) and went ahead and peeked.
It was actually a letter patch auto of Kobe, letter 'B' — my one and only Kobe auto.
I also pulled a LeBron jersey/100 in the same box, so it goes down probably as one of my all-time Top 5 boxes.
I couldn't care less whether it was Upper Deck, Panini or Topps ... it was a great pull and especially awesome considering I thought it was Omri Casspi.
No offense to Omri if you're reading this ... LOL
