Posey's agent asked the question, "Should the rules change for contact at the plate?" Obviously he asked this question because of the injury just suffered, so I'm curious to what you guys think.
Is contact at the plate just part of the game or should they change the rules?
It comes up almost every time this sort of thing happens at the plate. Time passes, people forget. The rules don't change. I don't think they should change the rules either. It's unfortunate a player was injured don't get me wrong but plays at the plate are one of the most exciting plays in baseball right behind someone legging out a nice triple IMO.
Tough position, bad break, game on..
And I am a Giants fan!!1
No rule changes...part of the game
NO rules change needed. This IS BASEBALL. Plain and simple. Just becuase the agent is afraid he might lose a few million, does not mean we need to change the rules.
if this happened to Lou Marson, or Rod Barajas, aint nobody would be talking about a rule change
I agree, the rules will not change. Just a bad break for buster.. No pun intended.
I agree with ya'll and I figured 99% would agree. No change needed. I think this is just a case of an agent afraid of losing millions (as butchrecon72 brought up). I hope baseball doesn't think they should change the rules like football does every year.
Baseball is historically very very very slow on implementing changes into the rule book. The only other sport that I can think of off the top of my head that is just as slow is Hockey. However the past few years Hockey has changed a few rules to try and make the game better.
Pete Rose pretty much ended the career of Ray Fosse (who? excactly) on a collision at the plate during an all star game. No rule change then, no rule change now, period. My Dad STILL hates Pete Rose to this day though, lol
