Tonight I was messing around with the OPG and I began to wonder how many cards exist of certain pro athletes. I began typing in some of the most prominent and mostly contemporary names within their respective sports. These volume numbers surely are not 100% accurate which is not crucial anyway. Below are the names with the highest OPG numbers over 10K, I do not think I missed anyone who belongs to this club:
A-Rod 18,137
Griffey Jr. 13,319
X - Favre 12,832
Cal Ripken Jr. 12,646
Pujols 12,573
Jeter 12,433
Clemens 12,213
Bonds 11,522
Chipper Jones 10,999
Greg Maddux 10,586
X - Michael Jordan 10,204
Manny Ramirez 10,114
Randy Johnson 10,068
Perhaps not surprisingly 11 of the top 13 are baseball names. That's why it is impressive that Favre is in the top three.
For hockey I looked up Gretzky, Crosby and Lindros and surprisingly neither, especially Gretzky, is close to being in the 10K category.
Kobe and Shaq are also still under 10K.
The same can be said for McGwire, Sosa, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Gwynn, Mike Schmidt, Ortiz, Glavine, Piazza, Eddie Murray, Roy Halladay, Frank Thomas, Bagwell, Biggio, Mauer, Pedro Martinez, George Brett - although some are close.
Most importantly, since this is a football forum, Tom Brady, Montana, Jerry Rice, Aikman, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Bledsoe, Marino, and Elway all miss the mark too. From memory I think Peyton Manning is awfully close.
