For the second year, College Classics in association with The Downtown Athletic Club of New York issued a series consisting of 20 cards honoring Heisman Trophy winners. One hundred thousand sets were produced, and each one included a consecutively numbered card from 1-100,000. The set was issued in a sturdy cardboard box with an unnumbered checklist on its back. Two-card strips measuring approximately 3 1/2" by 7 1/2" and featuring either Barry Sanders or Roger Staubach were issued to promote the set. The Sanders and Staubach promos are different in that the card number on the back of the regular issue has been replaced by the word "Sample." The sample cards are not considered part of the set. The front design features a color player portrait bordered in black and gold. The player's name appears in a black stripe that cuts across the bottom of the picture, intersecting a picture of the Heisman Trophy at the lower right corner. The horizontal back has a larger picture of the Heisman Trophy and a summary of the player's career. The year the player won the trophy is printed vertically in a gold stripe running down the right side. The cards are skip-numbered and arranged chronologically from older to more recent Heisman trophy winners. [Collapse]
