This set of 137 football figurines and collectors cards was issued by Cincinnati-based Kenner Toy Company. The cards are unnumbered and checklisted below in alphabetical order. The four modes of distribution for the '88 Football set were team cases (24 pieces) issued in each teams respective region, All-Star cases (24 pieces) issued nationwide, retail catalogs and a 1-800 number. The individual player assortments within the team cases were not equal and caused certain pieces to be short prints. The Bills, Chargers, Cowboys and Raiders are the toughest teams to complete. The following players made up the All-Star case assortments: Marcus Allen (2 per case), Brian Bosworth (2), Eric Dickerson (2), John Elway (2), Dan Marino (3), Jim McMahon (3), Joe Montana (20, Phil Simms (2), Lawrence Taylor (3), Herschel Walker (2) and Reggie White (1). Three players, Tony Dorsett, Willie Gault and Marc Wilson were only made available through Sears and J.C. Penney's catalogs. Sears offered all three pieces while J.C. Penney's offered only the Willie Gault. Finally, in 1989, a company in conjunction with Kenner set up a 1-800 mail order business that sold all Kenner products made through 1989. The 1988 football sets were made available at approximately $7.00 per piece through this company. [Collapse]
