Error-Rod?

Dec 5 2007 6:37PM

A-Rod to the Angels?

How about A-Rod to the Dodgers?

No, A-Rod to the Mets seems more like it?

Ah, I got it: A-Rod to the Red Sox, 100 percent guaranteed.

An inspired game of A-Rod Roulette seems to have been played by Upper Deck within their 2007 SP Authentic release. Beckett Baseball has received numerous reports from collectors that the Alex Rodriguez base card (#80) has several variants associating the newly re-signed Yankees slugger with a smorgasbord of teams.

To date, Beckett Baseball has tracked four different versions of the reigning AL MVP's 2007 SP Authentic card identifying Rodriguez as "Ex-Rod" and as a member of the Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers or Angels with the respective team's logo foil stamped in the upper left hand corner.

"Although we haven't been able to confirm just how scarce these variations are, the Angels, Dodgers, Mets and Red Sox ‘Ex Rod' cards have been selling for significant amounts of money," says Beckett Baseball Price Guide editor Brian Fleischer. "We've confirmed sales of $93 (Mets), $85, $78 and $54 (Red Sox), $44 (Dodgers) and $37 (Angels). The standard Yankees version is routinely selling for about $1.50."

Stay tuned to Beckett.com for updates to this developing story.
