Re-Imagined OPC Premier Brand Starts Out Strong
Jul 3 2008 2:01PM
The O-Pee-Chee brand name has a long tradition of providing collectors in the hockey market with an exciting and value-packed collecting experience. With the release of the re-vamped 2007-08 O-Pee-Chee Premier, collectors will get an entirely different experience. Of course, that's too be expected from a brand that was last seen going for less than $3 a pack that now will sell for $200.
With this year's crop of rookie talent boasting rising stars like Jonathan Toews, Carey Price, Patrick Kane, Nicklas Backstrom and so many others, collectors will be thrilled to find that every pack yields one autograph quad rookie memorabilia card.
But Upper Deck, the company that is keeping the OPC legacy alive, says that rookie autographs and game-used content are not the only reasons collectors invest in 2007-08 NHL O-Pee-Chee Premier. The company believes it has added significant value into every pack where collectors can also expect to find one jersey, patch or regular parallel card numbered to 100 or less; one manufactured patch card; and one autograph card.
The Premier Stitchings manufactured patch cards are new to the hockey market and have been well received so far. Collectors are chasing down unique variations and rare autograph versions.
"We solicited a lot of feedback from distributors, hobby shops and collectors about this product," said Karvin Cheung, Upper Deck senior product manager. "This really was a group effort to produce a high-end version of a brand with so much hockey tradition around it. It seems the end result is a success as it has been performing very well so far."
"We've enjoyed great success with O-Pee-Chee Premier as just about all our buyers are multiple pack shredders with some incredible cards to show for it," said Mike Fruitman, owner of Mike's Stadium Sportscards in Aurora, CO. "People really seem to be drawn to the on-card autographs and even the Premier Stitchings cards have created a buzz. We have seen some incredible pulls highlighted by a Patrick Roy and Ray Bourque dual autograph memorabilia card."
Collectors can find 2007-08 NHL O-Pee-Chee Premier in stores now.
