The Ultimate In Ball Park Souvenirs

Apr 17 2008 9:04AM

A take-home souvenir is as much a part of the ball park experience as eating a hot dog, the seventh inning stretch, and loudly questioning the visual acuity of the umpiring crew. Pennants and programs will remain the staples, but fans in some major league cities now have a new option to consider: jumbo replicas of their game ticket.

The Yankees, Mets, Cardinals and Nationals are the first four teams to launch an in-stadium program allowing fans to get their own personal tickets made into Mega Tickets. Manufactured by That's My Ticket and officially licensed by Major League Baseball, Mega Tickets are created from authentic MLB tickets that are scanned and enlarged 500%, printed on archival canvas, and professionally stretch-mounted using state-of-the-art technology and equipment. Mega Tickets are ideal for autographs, especially as a team-signed item.

"All fans have that one special ticket from that one special game they attended," says Dean Macchi, president of That's My Ticket. "Maybe it's from the World Series or an All-Star Game or there was a record-breaking performance. Or maybe it's special for personal reasons such as the first game a family attended together. We [can] make that ticket into a Mega Ticket."

Want a Mega Ticket? All fans have to do is bring their own ticket to the ballpark where they will be scanned and immediately returned to them. The final product, called a Personalized Mega Ticket, will be shipped directly to their home/office via UPS.

In addition to offering Personalized Mega Tickets, ballparks are stocking Mega Tickets featuring historic tickets from their respective franchises. The Yankees have a long list of World Series Mega Tickets available, while the Mets have both 1969 and 1986 World Series Mega Tickets on sale in their team store. The Nationals offer their 2005 Inaugural Game Mega Ticket available. All teams are also carrying a 2008 Opening Day Megas.

"The Mega Ticket is the ultimate item for any fan who remembers where they were when that game or event happened," says Matt Lane, vice-president of Sports Images. "They also serve as a fantastic new item to get autographed. Almost every athlete we have had autograph these has asked if they can have one for their collection."

Autograph show promoters including Tri-Star, Mounted Memories, and MAB Celebrity have introduced the Mega Ticket to their clients. Among the most popular items are 500 Home Run, 3,000 Hit, and Record-Breaking Mega Tickets (Ripken, Rose, etc.). Also licensed by the National Hockey League, Mega Tickets are making their arena debut during the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs.
