'$3 Card' Sells for More Than $1,000 Graded

Apr 4 2007 11:47AM

Why have your cards professionally graded? Consider a recent instance where a 1969 Topps Cleon Jones (#512) card, which normally lists ungraded at less than $3, sold as a PSA 9 for more than $1,000.

There are just three PSA 9 examples of the Jones card listed on the on the well-established PSA set registry. The PSA 9 sold for just over $1,000 last week. As you can see, the graded value is a significant multiple of the what otherwise would be a $3 raw card.

Look for this type of pricing detail in the upcoming Beckett Media publication, Beckett Graded Card Investor and Price Guide which will hit newsstands and card stores in May. The publication will provide graded card pricing for cards graded by the four reputable grading companies.

And while you're at it, you might start grading some of those cards in your shoebox with BGS, GAI, PSA or SGC grading companies. All are reputable firms and can increase the value of your raw cards if the grades come back high.
