Houston, November 12, 2006 – Some lucky fan who purchases a 99-cent pack of vintage baseball cards will come away with a trio of Babe Ruth items worth more than $100,000.
In the latest round of the company's celebrated "Hidden Treasures" promotion, the grand treasure will be The Babe Collection: a Babe Ruth rookie card, the famed #151 published by The Sporting News in 1915 (when Ruth was pitching for Boston), along with a Ruth game used bat and a Ruth signed baseball, all items properly authenticated.
The packs will be available beginning in late November with the Grand Treasure Ceremony scheduled to be held in the summer of 2008. Ruth World's Greatest Card Chase packs will be available at WalMart and other retail outlets nationwide.
Tristar will deliver 99-cent packs of vintage cards throughout the country, each pack containing five licensed, out of production cards. Randomly inserted Diamond Tickets in the packs provide an invitation to the Grand Treasure Ceremony and a chance to uncover The Babe Collection.
At the Grand Treasure Ceremony, each ticket holder will receive one of four randomly selected authentic Babe Ruth cards – or, for one of them, the Grand Treasure. (The other cards include a Ruth 1933 Goudy #144, a Ruth 1933 Goudy #149, a Ruth 1935 Sports King #2, and a Ruth 1948 Leaf #3).
And then the Grand Treasure winner will receive the rookie card, the bat and ball, which carry a value of more than $100,000.
"The World's Greatest Card Chase concept has brought Tristar great attention," said Mandy Fuerst, Vice President of Events & Marketing. "In July 2006, we presented a T-206 Honus Wagner card as the Grand Treasure of the Wagner World's Greatest Card Chase series. The Ruth World's Greatest Card Chase will continue to showcase such a great appreciation for the heritage of the collecting hobby, as so many collectors want a piece of ‘The Babe.'"
