Super Bowl I Replica Ring Sells for $22,000 in Charity Auction

Jerry Kramer, a member of Vince Lombardi's World Champion Green Bay Packers teams, sold his replica Super Bowl I ring through Mastro Auctions as part of an ongoing effort to raise funds for former NFL players in need.
The winner, a Green Bay resident who has asked that his name not be disclosed, purchased the ring for $22,000, nearly double the amount experts predicted.
All proceeds from the auction will go toward assisting retired players who are disadvantaged or indigent due to the inadequate pension and disability compensation provided to older players by the league.
Today in Green Bay, Kramer announced that he will team with other former NFL stars who share the same concerns regarding pension funding for these players. Together, with assistance from Mastro Auctions, they will develop a larger auction including rare and unique pieces to help bring additional funds to the trust.
On May 16, Kramer was reunited with his original Super Bowl I ring, which was stolen from him on a flight in 1981, and resurfaced with a sale through Mastro Auctions. Once learning the ring was stolen property, Mastro Auction pulled the ring from the auction and secured its safe return to Kramer. The event at Lambeau Field marked the end of a 25 year search by the 70-year-old offensive lineman for this missing memento.
